Mercy
Discovering New Possibilities
When Mercy joined our Ulongwe Women’s Group in 2022, she wasn’t sure she could ever become a businesswoman.
She had dropped out of high school and had never earned her own income. Mercy relied on her husband to bring home money and struggled to put food on the table and send her children to school.
Through the Women Together program, Mercy began learning alongside other women in her community and discovered new possibilities for her future.
Developing Skills and Enterprise
Over the next three years, Mercy gained new skills in animal husbandry, climate-smart farming, and business management.
She learned how to make soap and eco-charcoal, and how to operate a village-based baking system. Alongside other members of the Ulongwe Women’s Group, Mercy participated in cooperative chicken, pig, and farming businesses.
As her confidence grew, she reinvested her earnings into her own entrepreneurial goals.
Creating Opportunity for Others
In 2025, Mercy opened her own daycare, creating a safe and supportive place for children in her community.
Now, while Mercy cares for local children, their mothers are able to work, attend school, and pursue opportunities of their own.
Mercy’s courage and determination—supported by Women Together’s Women in Business programs—have created opportunity not only for her family, but for dozens of women in her community.
Her story is one of hundreds made possible through Women Together programs across Malawi.

“Most of us are able to run businesses and we're self-reliant. Challenges are there, but still, we're able to conquer them and we're able to do things that we were not able to do in the past.”
